The Standards Oversight Council (SOC) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have finalized two DNR post-construction storm water technical standards related to adding aluminum-based coagulants to storm water wet detention ponds.
These standards provide criteria for the design, installation, and maintenance for the following practices:
- Technical Standard 1013 Flow-Weighted Coagulant Dosing of Storm Water Wet Detention Ponds provides a means of enhancing Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Total Phosphorus (TP) reduction on an ongoing basis.
- Technical Standard 1014 Episodic Aluminum-Based Coagulant Dosing for Maintenance of Storm Water Wet Detention Ponds provides an approach for removing TSS and TP in the water column and reducing the potential from phosphorus export from pond sediments.
Note: Finalization of these technical standards does not create a requirement that all stormwater ponds utilize coagulants but rather provides information for those who opt to address TSS and TP with the approach. Information regarding permitting of the activities described in the technical standards will be provided at a later date.
