Notification for Assembling NRCS 313 Waste Storage Facility Technical Standard Work Team


Volunteer technical experts are needed to serve on a technical standard Work Team to revise a Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) technical standard related to agricultural practices. The work team is being convened to update an existing technical standard, described below, that conforms to existing laws and regulations. Criteria for the standard will be based on existing science and should be protective of the water quality.


313, Waste Storage Facility

Notice 164 to the NRCS National Handbook of Conservation Practices was issued recently. It contained a revised Standard 313, Waste Storage Facility. Individuals with experience constructing, designing, maintaining, permitting, studying, testing, and/or using these devices are encouraged to apply. The goal is to complete the revision within one year as required by NRCS policy.

Team Process

The team process as outlined by the Standards Oversight Council (SOC) process handbook will be utilized to develop the practice standards. The primary team shall consist of 8 – 12 individuals who have technical expertise in constructing, designing, maintaining, testing, and/or using these systems.  Individuals offering substantial experience and a broad statewide perspective are preferred to optimize team efficacy and the quality of the final product.


Individuals with these qualifications and who have an interest in participating in the full team process should submit a letter of interest with a short summary of their experience to the SOC Program Manager at by Friday, July 1 to be considered for the team.  Team members will be notified of their acceptance on the team by July 11.  The first full team meeting is expected to occur in late July, and meetings will continue every 3-4 weeks until the standard is updated, approximately through April 2017. Team members will be expected to attend all meetings.
