Applications are now being accepted!

Volunteer technical experts are needed to serve on a technical standard work team to update the current NRCS Conservation Practice Standard (CPS) 635 Vegetated Treatment Area (VTA).  The work team will focus on the following issues:

  • disincentives or barriers to implementation;
  • siting parameters and the specific criteria for the treatment of open lot runoff from small and medium animal feeding operations; milking center wastewater; and runoff from feed storage areas; and
  • software tools and technical references to complete the design.
This technical standard will be updated following the Standards Oversight Council (SOC) Full Process detailed in the Technical Standards Process Handbook.  The Standards Oversight Council (SOC) welcomes applications from individuals with experience constructing, designing, maintaining, inspecting, studying, testing, and/or using the VTA practice.  Those with substantial experience and a broad statewide perspective are preferred to optimize team efficacy and the quality of the final product. We seek participation from technical experts, county staff, and consultants.
A summary of the team focus and the application instructions/form are provided in this notificationApplications for this team are due by the end of the day on Thursday, February 23, 2023.
Further information about this project is available on the SOC CPS 635 VTA work team website, which will continue to be updated as work proceeds.
